What We Like About the Tiffin World Globe

This 12-inch raised relief tabletop globe has vibrant blue oceans and detailed political boundaries. Mounted in a beautiful champagne-toned full swing metal meridian and base, this globe allows you to read any part of the globe easily. Cram globes are completely up-to-date, tested for durability, and designed for classroom use.

The George F. Cram Company story dates back to 1867, when George Cram, only two years after fighting for the Union in the Civil War, joined his uncle's business of making city and state maps. In 1869 Cram became the first American publisher to produce a world atlas. The Cram name quickly became synonymous with accuracy and innovation. In 1932, the company expanded into manufacturing world globes. Today, the Cram company is considered one of the top leaders in the world globe industry and its globes are present in thousands of schools, homes, and offices around the world.

Comments about Cram Tiffin 12-Inch Diameter Tabletop Globe:

Following is an elaboration of my previous review and, like my previous review, is also posed as a comparison of the Tiffin (by George F. Cram) and the Pioneer (by Replogle). [...]Labelling of land place names on the Tiffin is less congested than the Pioneer because fewer minor places are named and fonts are slightly smaller (but still easily read) on the Tiffin. The Tiffin does not, however, label ocean place names, currents, or shipping routes; the Pioneer does. Ocean labels encourage a sense of continuity of the planet surface as opposed to a bounded flat map.The Tiffin map relief is primarily symbolic (in both shading and surface); the Pioneer map relief is realistic. The Pioneer map relief appears to be derived from satellite imagery, while the Tiffin uses a traditional drawn map. Both have advantages, and neither style is consistently better at representing relief features. Both Tiffin and Pioneer frame/base are of good quality. The Tiffin base/frame shape and color are more attractive than the Pioneer. The Tiffin provides a device with which the ball can be readily removed from the frame without deconstruction of the frame; the pioneer mounting does not have such a device. The Tiffin base is dome shaped and therefore stiffer than the Pioneer base which is flat, and the Pioneer yoke is stiffer than the Tiffin yoke. Both mountings – combined base and yoke together – are about equally stiff.
